A huge congratulations goes out to two of our very own employees – Jennifer Perrault and Lacey Van Der Marel – who are both heading to the Olympic Trials next week in Calgary!
Jen, who worked with us up until September when she headed to Ottawa to pursue her Masters in Sports Psychology, has been continuing with her track pursuits from her days at Western and earlier this season competed in the 800m, finishing with a time of 2:06:07. She has been nursing a foot injury but is hopeful that she will be good to go for next week.
Jen’s training plan involves a mix of aerobic and anaerobic work, with long runs off the track and 3 days a week at the track for faster workouts. Jen is a strong weightlifter as well, following a lifting program she used when she was a sprinter. Jen is such a hard worker and we couldn’t be more proud of where she is and where she will be heading – to even more wonderful opportunities no matter what she pursues.
Jen is all about Mizuno! For warm ups and long runs, she finds comfort in Mizuno’s Wave Precision. For tempo work on the track, she uses Mizuno’s Wave Ronin. And for her lightning fast speed on the track, the only spike for her is Mizuno’s Geo Silencer.
Lacey Van Der Marel has been working at Foot Tools since September and has brought a different dynamic to the store. Lacey, an accomplished Crossfitter, was also on the track team at Western, competing in Long Jump. She took two years off and has been competing on Crossfit (she attended the Crossfit Games last year in California), as well as competing in Weightlifting competitions and Fitness competitions.
Lacey will be heading to the qualifying round to compete for the last 3 spots for the Long Jump meet at the Olympic Trials. Crossfit has really helped Lacey with her strength and speed – her qualifying jump was 5.81m, which bested her PB two years ago of 5.59m! Lacey’s winning spike in Windsor was Mizuno’s Tokyo – for Crossfit, she enjoys wearing Inov-8’s F-Lite 195.
A remarkable story, Lacey is a great example of strength and determination – we know this is only the beginning of great things to come for her.
CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU BOTH! We wish you all the luck in the world and couldn’t be more proud!
