Saucony Peregrine 4 named Editor’s Choice

Best In Class Peregrine Advances Brand’s Commitment to Trail in Lightest Version Yet

LEXINGTON, MA (March 5, 2014) – With six million runners now hitting the trails*, global performance running footwear and apparel brandSaucony today announced that the Peregrine 4, the brand’s newly updated trail running shoe, has been named “Editor’s Choice” in theRunner’s World Spring Trail Shoe Guide (April issue). Runner’s World, the largest and most influential media brand in the running space, put nine of the best new trail shoes on the market through rigorous testing by the publication’s editors, 200 wear-testers and the Runner’s Worldshoe lab. The Peregrine 4 received the highest marks in the testing, successfully combining the highest-quality design and technology elements of all its competitors.

“The Peregrine 4 is a gritty, fantastic little shoe!” said a speedy 21-year old Runner’s World wear-tester who wore it running up mountains. “Not only is it lightweight, but the tread is a monster.”

“That tread features aggressive V-shaped lugs (another tester called them “shark’s teeth) running the shoe’s full width under the foot,” said theRunner’s World review of the shoe. “This gives you reliable grip on rough terrain where you can spend a lot of time digging in with the edges of your shoe. A nylon-fiber plate protects your forefoot from trail debris, which our testers appreciated, especially since the thin midsole positions your toes closer to the ground than average. This update comes in a half-ounce lighter than the 3, yet provides better support up top, especially at the heel. Bottom line: On race day, grip it and rip it!” added the Runner’s World editors.

“We continue to work hard to keep the iconic Peregrine evolving as the benchmark among trail running shoes and to be singled out like this is reassurance that we’re nailing it,” said Pat O’Malley, senior vice president of global product for Saucony. “The latest generation of the Peregrine, named for the fastest bird on earth, is just what a trail shoe should be, allowing runners to fly over the trail with confidence-inducing grip and traction. We know the off-road stature of the Peregrine will continue to allow runners of all levels to enjoy their trail experience even more, forging a deeper connection with the run, themselves and the outdoors. As always, the whole Saucony team thanks Runner’s World for this prestigious award.”

Peregrine 4

The new Peregrine 4 reflects an award-winning heritage: The first Peregrine was also recognized with the prestigious “Editor’s Choice” award by Runner’s World in the publication’s 2011 Trail Shoe Guide.

saucony-peregrine-womens-teal-mainThe latest generation of the renowned Peregrine extends the limits of performance innovation on many levels. The Peregrine is designed with a 4mm offset, allowing the foot to move naturally and uninhibited while increasing the runner’s proprioception and balance over tricky trails.

The Peregrine 4, among the lightest shoes in the trail running category (men’s size 9: 9.4 oz.; women’s size 8: 8.3 oz.) features an outsole with deeper multi-directional lugs for superior traction on a wide range of off-road terrain. Thanks to its ultra-flexible, low-ride and super-aggressive outsole, the Peregrine is sticky and supple enough to grip on slick rock, yet ready to bite into dirt, snow and mud. The co-molded External Bedrock Outsole plate is upgraded to nylon mesh, reducing weight without sacrificing protection. While PowerGrid™ in the heel provides responsive, lightweight propulsion, the featherweight FlexFilm™, welded onto the seamless mesh upper, secures and stabilizes the foot, simultaneously reducing layers to the shoe while increasing flexibility.

The Peregrine’s HydraMax™ collar lining and a removable ComfortLite Sockliner™ add to the shoe’s superior comfort. A gusseted tongue helps keep out trail debris while a D-ring makes the shoe compatible with gaiters for snowshoeing or extreme adventure runs.

The Peregrine 4 is now available at select specialty run retailers in men’s sizes 7-13 and 14 and women’s sizes 5-11 and 12. The suggested retail price of the peregrine 4 is $130.00.

Saucony’s ongoing commitment to improvement in innovation and performance continues to earn significant industry awards for the brand.
